Catch the free shuttle bus from Cockermouth to the beautiful Buttermere valley. This bus was popular in 2021 and we have secured funding to run it again in 2022, including a Bluebell special from 7 May 2022 so you can visit the beautiful Bluebells of Rannerdale and Holme Wood.

From Workington you can catch the X4/5 which runs to and from Cockermouth every hour
From Buttermere you can catch the 77/77A to Keswick, via Whinlatter and Honister. The last 77A for Keswick via Whinlatter departs Buttermere at 18:24 and can then connect with the X4/5 in Keswick to get back to Cockermouth if you want a longer day in Buttermere.
Visit one of many great lunch stops in Buttermere including The Bridge Hotel, The Buttermere Court Hotel, Croft House Farm Café and Syke Farm Tearoom. In Loweswater the Kirkstile Inn offers food and drink.

You can walk all around Buttermere lake, its about 7km and takes around 3 hours. The walk is relatively easy and level with a great 'reward for effort' ratio. The views mean that your photos make it look like you've been somewhere much more rugged!
A moderate walk that's 4.8km long and takes about 2 hours, with views over Buttermere and Crummock Water.
