Bluebird Project Consultation

Bluebird Project Byelaws Consultation

In 2008 the team rebuilding speed boat Bluebird K7 asked us to consider amending the Coniston Water byelaws, to allow the craft to undertake proving trials in excess of 10mph

Following a public consultation, the Lake District National Park Authority agreed to amending the byelaws to allow a one-off proving trial event on Coniston Water subject to specific conditions related to:

  • timing of the event
  • health and safety
  • environmental considerations including risk of water and noise pollution

A further public consultation on draft byelaws took place in Spring 2010. We have now made new byelaws allowing the event to take place. We considered more than 250 representations from the public and organisations as part of the consultation exercise which led to changes to the byelaws. The amended byelaws were approved at a meeting of the Authority on 15 September 2010. The Authority has now given formal notice of its intention of applying for confirmation of the new byelaws by the Secretary of State.
