Extension to the National Park

Defra has today announced an extension will be made to the boundary of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, following a recommendation from Natural England.

From the Longest Letter to the Smallest Fell!

Pupils from schools in the Kendal area and visitors to Brockhole, the Lake District Visitor Centre have written the longest letter to the Lake District’s World Heritage bid team, to help them show the UNESCO judging panel why the national park is so special to them. The result is a giant reel of heartfelt messages expressing their love for the beautiful place they call home.

Archaeology in action secures future for Lake District sites

Thanks to the work of the Lake District Archaeology Volunteers Network, 24 historic sites across the Lake District have today been removed from Historic England’s Heritage at Risk Register.

Making room for a view
