Visitors to the Lake District are once again enjoying the health and wellbeing benefits of the National Park, and this season that includes a warm welcome from the Authority’s 75 new visitor welcome volunteers.
After a long winter, we’re finally able to spend more time outdoors again, discover a new adventure and connect with nature. The value of our green spaces has never been higher as we recover from the effects of the pandemic. This John Muir Day, Graham Watson, John Muir Award Manager for Cumbria, celebrates six Cumbrians who are looking after these special places and working for a better future. Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team is one of 12 teams covering Cumbria and it’s also one of the busiest. From our base near Glenridding, we responded to 83 call outs in 2018. Made up of volunteers and available 24/7, our Team is reliant on donations and fundraising from supporters.
Wrapping up the end of a busy summer season and ahead of World Tourism Day on Thursday, Lake District organisations and transport providers have stepped onboard an ambitious new plan to manage visitor travel for the next 20 years.
