A short walk to historic Yew Tree Farm, used as Beatrix Potter’s home in the Renée Zellweger film - OS Explorer Map OL7
This undulating path (0.75.km each way) offers a wonderful excursion through Yewdale's oak woodlands. The steep, craggy slopes of Holme Fell and Yewdale Fell can be seen to the north and west.
From the car park, continue up the road, cross Shepherd's Bridge and go through a gate on the right. The track surface has been upgraded to smooth compacted stone, but has gradients steeper than 1:10 for short sections (up to 1:6).
At the junction with a footpath, which heads north over Holme Fell, bear right and down the steep slope to Yew Tree Farm. Stop here to admire the scenery before returning to the start.
This route can be combined with Miles Without Stiles Route 15 (Yewdale Bridleway, route 'for some') to form a longer route 6.5km in length starting / ending near the Coniston Coppermines YHA.
