A view of Brockhole, the Lake District National Park Visitor Centre

Brockhole Visitor Support Volunteer

The Lake District National Park welcomes over 19 million visitors every year, and many find their way to our National Park Visitor Centre at Brockhole. Our Visitor Support Volunteers will help people make the most out of their visit, advising on activities and facilities available on the beautiful lakeshore site, and sharing their love for the Lake District.

What will I be doing?

Our Visitor Support Volunteers will:
  • Provide information to visitors about the facilities and activities available that day
  • Manage the flow of visitors around Brockhole by recommending quieter parts of the site
  • Report any problems or issues to the Brockhole staff team
  • Promote the Lake District National Park and suggest other activities and destinations that visitors might enjoy

What skills do I need?

This role will suit you if you are:

  • Happy meeting new people - there'll be plenty every day!
  • Self-sufficient - there'll be lots of support on site, but there will be time spent volunteering solo
  • Passionate about the Lake District and the outdoors
  • Friendly and confident

How often will I need to volunteer?

We recommend volunteering at least once every other week, so that you build your knowledge of the site and its different facilities. Each volunteering shift lasts four hours, covering Brockhole's busiest hours between 11:00am and 3:00pm. There are volunteer shifts available every day of the week. Initially this role will be active throughout the summer holidays.

What training will I receive?

You'll receive a full site tour and induction to give you a base level of knowledge about the site and its different activities. All volunteer duties will be supported by a member of the Brockhole staff team too.

What's in it for me?

This role is perfect for volunteers who are looking to meet new people, learn new skills and join a vibrant team. You'll get to meet people from all over the world and share your knowledge and passion for the Lake District.

In addition you'll receive:

  • Free hot drinks on site
  • A LDNPA parking permit that can be used throughout the Lake District
  • Access to Brockhole's canoes and kayaks outside of rental hours
  • Discounts in Lake District National Park Authority shops and cafes

How do I apply?

You can apply by completing our online application form. A member of the Volunteers Service will then get in touch to discuss starting your volunteering journey.
