Liam McAleese, Head of Strategy and Partnerships, Lake District National Park Authority said:
“The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government is currently consulting on the principle of granting planning permission for non-hydraulic shale gas exploration development through a permitted development right.
One of the main areas they are seeking views on is whether National Parks and other areas of natural heritage should be excluded from this permitted development right.
“Members have agreed today at Park Strategy and Vision Committee that we will submit a joint response to the consultation along with all other national parks through National Parks England.
“This response will detail that, collectively, we strongly agree that a permitted development right for non-hydraulic fracturing shale gas exploration development should not apply to national parks and other areas of natural heritage.
“We will not be issuing a separate response to this consultation. We expect National Parks England to submit the response by 25 October 2018.”
