Sous Chef

Salary: up to £26,600 per year + peak season enhancement of £3,100 (max £29,700)

  • Majority daytime shifts (only occasional evening work required)
  • Weekend work required
  • Average 37hrs per week (up to 44.5hrs in peak season)
  • Normal working 5 days over 7 (occasional 6 day weeks required peak season)

Brockhole on Windermere are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and experienced person for the role of Sous Chef for our on-site outlets, including the Brockhole Café, The Gaddum Restaurant, and our very busy outdoor kitchen BBQ and take away cafés.

The Gaddum is one of the few 90% 5* Tripadvisor restaurants in the Lakes.

Reporting directly to the Head Chef, Gerald van der Walt, you will be required to assist in managing the kitchen and delivering exceptional food quality, and leading the kitchen team in the absence of the Head Chef.

Our ideal candidate will be a chef who has already got experience in a Sous Chef role or a skilled Chef de Partie, with the ability and ambition to step up to the next level. You’ll need to demonstrate having a passion for great food and working hard to produce the dishes on our new, imaginative Cumbrian ingredient based menus. This is an opportunity to create and deliver a wide range of high quality food and dining – ranging from a premium Lunch or Afternoon Tea to a chargrilled BBQ take-away - to a varied local and visitor client base. This is a busy and high profile environment, with the added bonus of not having to work most evenings.

Brockhole on Windermere has started on a long term transformational programme of developments, particularly in its café and restaurant offer, having already opened the much acclaimed Gaddum Restaurant (2018) and the hugely popular Garden Shed Café & BBQ (2019), we are now working towards the next phase of developments.

The site includes the beautiful Gibson designed Brockhole House, a great Arts and Crafts house set in 30 acres of stunning Thomas Mawson designed, listed gardens, on the shores of Lake Windermere. With the Lake District now a designated World Heritage Site, this is a great opportunity to make a significant contribution to the main visitor centre for the Lake District, currently visited by over 300,000 people per year.

This role presents a great opportunity to demonstrate and develop your skills and experience in the catering and hospitality industry, whilst earning good money in beautiful surroundings.
