Shop and Information Supervisor

£19,412 - £20,897

Permanent, full time position

Brockhole on Windermere is the main Lake District National Park Visitor Centre. Set on the shores of Windermere, the site includes a beautiful Gibson designed Arts and Crafts House (now the visitor centre) surrounded by 30 acres of stunning Thomas Mawson listed gardens.

We attract over 300,000 visitors a year to enjoy a wide range of activities and events, or just to explore the stunning site and views over the Lake. We are a major family activity attraction in the main holiday periods, but welcome a much wider demographic of visitor throughout the year to our restaurant, shop, exhibitions and gardens. We also host the LDNPA learning and engagement team and have a fantastic reputation around the region for this work.

We have recently begun a series of major events, including hosting the Great North Swim (30,000 people over 3 days) and developing our own major family Halloween Experience (10,000 people over 13 days) with further events planned for the future. We are looking for a new, ambitious and enthusiastic team member to help us create a destination shopping experience and deliver a world class visitor information service.

Your role

Our shop has developed a lot over the past 2 years and we have exciting plans for the future. Reporting to the Shop and Information Manager, you will help supervise and deliver Brockhole’s retail offer that is both a visitor attraction in its own right, and commercially profitable. You will assist the Shop & Information Manager to develop new product lines and visual merchandising to appeal to a new target market for Brockhole.

You will supervise when required and deliver Brockhole’s reception, box office and visitor information service ensuring the delivery of world class service at all times and ensuring proactive selling of Brockhole activities, events and facilities. You will deputise for the Shop and Information Manager in their absence, supervising staff and the opening and closing of the shop and information centre.

This role will include weekend and school holiday working and will be offered on an annualised hours basis, working to an average of 37 hrs a week. We foresee that there will be some times of year when your time input will need to be greater than others, to fit with the seasonal nature of our work, visitor numbers and scheduled activity programme, so you will be working more hours in the summer months than in the winter.

What it's like to work here

Brockhole is a hugely exciting and very beautiful place to work, with a very positive and supportive team ethos, where we support each other’s areas of work on a daily basis. The work can be very demanding in peak season, but the rewards in terms of job satisfaction are considerable, as we are here to look after this fantastic site, to ensure all of our visitors have a fantastic experience and hopefully learn to love the Lakes as much as we do.

About you

This role, as all roles at Brockhole, would suit someone who can be self-determined and self-motivated but who also knows how to, and enjoys, working as part of a wider team. You will bring existing knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for the role and Brockhole, but also you will also want to develop and learn – and this role is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to develop both their knowledge and experience.

If you have the right knowledge and experience, a positive team ethos, matched with a friendly, outgoing personality that enables you to engage with people of all ages then we’d love to hear from you.
