The Low Carbon Lake District programme is an exciting and innovative package of measures to deliver emission reductions in the Lake District and respond to the climate emergency. The Low Carbon Lake District Programme is a partnership programme lead by the Lake District National Park, in partnership with the National Trust, Cumbria Tourism, South Lakeland District Council and the Lake District foundation. The programme includes; delivery of new walking and cycling infrastructure, installation of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures, a small grants scheme for businesses and communities to invest in carbon reduction and innovative approaches to influencing peoples travel. The coordinator will work across all projects in the programme with a particular focus on the activities on linking low carbon and emission reduction to our visitor interpretation and experience as well as develop initiatives to pilot and trial innovative approaches to delivering low carbon and sustainable transport solutions (such as driverless pods and e-bikes).
The Low Carbon Lake District II project has applied for funding from the England European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014- 2020 to support this post. This builds on a Low Carbon Lake District 1 project which started last year. Funding for the Low Carbon Lake District 2 project will be confirmed in September and prior to the post-holder agreeing a contract with employment.
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and the Department for Work and Pensions are the Managing Authorities for European Regional Development Fund and European Social Fund funding through the Growth Programme, funds established by the European Union to help local areas stimulate their economic development. By investing in projects the funds will help to support innovation, businesses, skills and employment to improve local growth and create jobs.
