The Gaddum Restaurant opened its doors in April 2018 and has quickly established itself as one of the most beautiful settings for lunch and afternoon teas in the Lake District. Our reputation for fantastic food and spectacular Afternoon Teas has more than matched the setting. With wall to wall 5 star reviews for our Afternoon Teas, and many describing them as the best in the Lake District, we need an ambitious, hardworking and eager to learn Commis Chef to join the kitchen team over the busy summer period. This is a seasonal role covering the period from Easter to end of September.
The Gaddum is sited in Brockhole House, a great Arts and Crafts house set in 30 acres of stunning Thomas Mawson designed listed gardens on the shores of Lake Windermere. The house and site are also home to multiple cafés, a shop, an art gallery, meeting rooms and many visitor attraction activities.
With the Lake District now a designated World Heritage Site, this is a great opportunity to make a significant contribution to the main visitor centre for the Lake District, currently visited by over 300,000 people per year.
Our ideal candidate will be a junior chef with a passion for learning and working hard to produce the dishes on our imaginative Cumbrian menus. There will be lots of opportunity to learn on the job; and in our 7 day-operation, no two days are the same in our kitchens.
The Commis Chef will predominantly be working on the pastry section, assisting with all associated baking and dessert work for lunches, afternoon tea and seasonal evening opening. As the junior chef in the kitchen, you will also be expected to assist with the preparation of our food offer for the cafés, and occasionally you’ll be required to assist your colleagues with food preparation for the restaurant.
Your working week will normally be 5 days over 7 which may include either a Saturday or Sunday or both, but extra days may be required during busiest periods. In return we can offer you a competitive salary and generous benefits package which will be discussed on application.
If you wish to have an informal discussion and to find out more about the role, please contact Gerald van der Walt, Head Chef on telephone number 015394 402 72 or via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applicants from all sectors of society. If you are an applicant with disabilities who meets the essential requirements of the job, we will interview you.
