Brockhole on Windermere is home to a number of popular and busy cafés and a beautiful new restaurant, and we are looking for skilled, ambitious and enthusiastic chefs, of various levels and experience to join our team, either in a permanent position, or for the spring and summer season. The Gaddum Restaurant opened its doors in April 2018 and has quickly established itself as one of the most beautiful settings for lunch and afternoon teas in the Lake District. Our reputation for fantastic food and spectacular Afternoon Teas has more than matched the setting. The Gaddum caters for visitors looking for a more relaxed and refined offer and has a growing regular clientele as well as many new guests.
The Gaddum is sited in Brockhole House, a great Arts and Crafts house set in 30 acres of stunning Thomas Mawson designed listed gardens on the shores of Lake Windermere. The house and site are also home to multiple cafés, a shop, an art gallery, meeting rooms and many visitor attraction activities.
The main Brockhole café is very busy and popular with families, looking for great food prepared with skill, and served quickly so they can get back out into the grounds and activities. Fresh, fast, fantastic food, served well is what the café aims to deliver consistently and daily. We need chefs who can calmly manage high demand over a short period of time, without compromising on quality.
Brockhole has 2 other café outlets serving grab and go hot and cold food, and we are looking to develop a great BBQ and street food offer during the busy holiday periods. We are also host to a number of events/festivals which give great opportunities for exploring catering for big and busy audiences.
With the Lake District now a designated World Heritage Site, this is a great opportunity to make a significant contribution to the main visitor centre for the Lake District, currently visited by over 300,000 people per year.
Reporting to the Head Chef, the Chef team will be responsible for preparing, creating and delivering for both the cafés and The Gaddum. Your working week, if full time, will normally be 5 days over 7 which may include either a Saturday or Sunday or both, but extra days may be required during busy periods. Our busiest times will be during school holidays. Part time hours could either be a few days a week, early morning prep or lunch time cover.

For the majority of the year you will not need to work late into the evenings (a luxury for a chef) and we are closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, so there are many home/work balance benefits.
