The annual pay award for 2023/24 is currently being negotiated and this will be applied and backdated to the start date of the successful candidate once agreed.

About Us

Coniston Boating Centre, located on the beautiful shores of Coniston Water, is a not-for-profit attraction run by the Lake District National Park Authority. The Centre is the main hub for visitors to rent a range of boats, bikes, and paddleboards and we’re now hiring a Boatperson to join us until 31 October 2023.

What’s it like to work here?

We’re a small friendly team, based at the lakeshore boatyard just half a mile from Coniston village. We’re open seven days a week, meaning some weekend working will be expected. Everyone works together so our customers have an amazing time and can safely enjoy activities on Coniston Water. The boatyard building has a small office with amenities and it’s also the headquarters for our car parking team.

The Role

Your main duties will be:

  • Assist with the day to day running of the practical and commercial operations at Coniston Boating Centre to ensure our visitors receive a world class visitor experience.
  • Instruct on the technical and safe use of all hiring equipment to our visitors.
  • Carry out administration and be a responsible keyholder when needed.
  • Carry out maintenance of the fleet of rowing boats, motor boats, other watercraft and bikes.
  • Using equipment such as lawnmowers and tools to maintain the Boating Centre site.

About You

You’ll be keen and enthusiastic, with previous customer experience of working within tourism to provide a high-quality commercial service in the National Park. You’ll also have an awareness and understanding of health and safety around water. Previous boating and tourism experience would be advantageous, and training will be provided.
