Explore the Lake District's eastern-most valley - Mardale - on quiet minor roads, passing through villages with evocative names such as Butterwick and Whale. You will see Hawes Water and its dam and learn more about how Mardale was flooded to provide water for Manchester. Refreshments will be available at the Haweswater hotel to provide sustenance for the return loop.
