Many of our walks include uneven, slippery or rocky ground and paths. Paths up on the fells are not smoothly tarmaced and can be bumpy! We have labelled all walks with either 'appropriate footwear advisable' or 'appropriate footwear essential':
Wear sensible footwear for support and comfort.
Walking boots, giving ankle support and grip, are essential on most 'moderate', 'hard' and all 'very hard' graded routes.
At the discretion of leaders, approach type footwear may be accepted, subject to route, weather and walker's experience. You may be turned away if not appropriately equipped.
Bring warm, waterproof and windproof clothing and equipment to suit the walk and the season. Our checklist for walkers can help.
