The Lake District is one of the UK’s biggest natural playgrounds, it's many lakes, hills and valleys offering the perfect settings for thrilling adventures and one-of-a-kind experiences. Here are just some of the amazing activities you can try during a visit to the Lake District.
Not for the faint hearted, ghyll scrambling is a wet and wild adventure like no other, where the National Park becomes your obstacle course. Scramble up spectacular mountain becks and traverse dramatic waterfalls, jumping off the edge into a pool if you dare.
Situated on the last working slate mine in England, the Infinity Bridge straddles the Honister Pass, over 2000 feet above the gorge below. Measuring 350 feet in length, the Infinity Bridge is named so as you cannot see the other side on a cloudy day – an amazing thrill for those not scared of heights!
Perhaps one of the more unusual experiences you can enjoy in the Lake District is walking with wolves. The Predator Experience offers you the chance to walk with their beautiful wolf hybrids, Maska and Kajika, and learn all about their instincts, communication, wolf pack systems and conservation.
Looking to see the Lake District from above? A gyroplane flight is perhaps the most thrilling way to do so! Lake District Gyroplanes offer the opportunity to enjoy a 30, 60 or 90 minute experience, where you can either choose to sit back, enjoy the views and take some photos, or take over the controls for yourself, flying over Ullswater, Hadrian’s Wall and many other beauty spots.
For seasoned mountain bike riders, the North Face trail in Grizedale Forest offers a thrilling challenge. Leg-burning uphills and steep descents combine to create the ultimate ride, with large rocks, jumps and drop-offs. A new severe trail has also been added to the Forest, deemed suitable for experts only.
Take to the skies with NWPC in a custom-built plane before plummeting over 15,000 feet with the fells and mountains beneath you, reaching speeds of up to 125mph. Once your parachute opens, you’ll gently glide towards the ground for five minutes, when you can take in the spectacular views all around you.
After a day filled with adventures, a cosy holiday cottage is the perfect place to retreat to and recharge ready for the next day. Set in some of the Lake District’s finest locations and adventure hotspots, the Lakeland Cottage Company offers over 70 charming cottages across the Lake District – the perfect base for your adrenaline-fuelled break.
