Tree work application

How do I apply to undertake work on a protected tree?

Before any work is carried out to a protected tree, you must obtain the formal consent of the Lake District National Park Authority.

Applying by post

You can print out and fill out by hand the Application form for tree works (opens in new window) and email it to trees.woodland@lakedistrict.gov.uk

Alternatively send it to:

Trees and Woodland Adviser
Lake District National Park Authority
Murley Moss
Oxenholme Road
Kendal LA9 7RL

Applying online

Online applications can be made through the Planning Portal (opens in new window). You need to register an account with thm. You can then complete the forms, upload your documentation and submit everything online.

Please ensure you give as much information as possible to support your application. You may find the Tree Work Application Checklist helpful or check out the government's Protected Trees - A Guide to Tree Preservation Procedures leaflet (opens in new window).
