Other policies we use
As well as the Local Development Framework, we take other policies into account when making planning decisions. These include:
- Saved policies from the Lake District Local Plan
- Saved policies from the Cumbria and Lake District Joint Structure Plan
- Consolidated document of saved Lake District Local Plan and Joint Structure Plan Policies (PDF)
- Policies in the North West of England Plan (PDF opens in new window. Warning: large document)
The Government advises that extended policies should be read in context. Where policies were adopted some time ago other factors may be taken into account in making planning decisions.
Regional Spatial Strategies
Regional Spatial Strategies were revoked by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government on 6 July 2010. However, at judicial review, the Secretary of State was found to have acted unlawfully in taking this action. It is the Government’s stated intention to abolish Regional Strategies through the Localism Bill.
National guidance
We must also take account of national guidance such as the government's planning policy statements (opens in new window) and planning regulations such as:
- Town and Country Planning (Local Development) Regulations 2004 (PDF opens in new window)
- Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2008 (PDF opens in new window)
