Call for sites
As part of the preparation of the emerging Local Plan, we carried out a ‘call for sites’ where landowners, developers, parish councils, businesses and others were invited to send in details of any sites, land or buildings that could be suitable for development over the next 15 year period.
We received a total of 290 site suggestions for housing, employment, retail or tourism uses. These sites have been through an initial filter and those unsuitable for allocation have been removed from the process (Stage 1). The remaining sites were subject to a detailed assessment to determine which ones are the most suitable for development and possible allocation in the emerging Local Plan (Stage 2).
This map shows all sites which made it through stages 1 and 2; and have been deemed suitable by the Lake District National Park Authority. Stage 3 involves public consultation to gauge public opinion and support for any applicable sites. We would like to receive your comments on these sites to understand if there are any factors you feel may impact each sites’ development potential. Your views will help shape our assessment of the site and determine if it is one that could be supported as an allocation. Sites which are allocated essentially carry outline planning permission – i.e. the principle of development is acceptable and it is the details that need to be approved when a planning application is submitted. To make this process as easy as possible, we have created a web map for this purpose (see below).
