Flood-damaged paths
The vast majority of paths are open in the Lake District, despite the unprecedented floods in November 2009. We have now completed over 80 repairs to rights of way damaged by the floods. However the following popular routes have been affected, including:
- Walna Scar Road between Coniston and Seathwaite
- Garburn Pass, Kentmere
- West shore of Windermere
- Scarth Gap, Buttermere
- General area damage in Buttermere, Bassenthwaite, Lorton, Crummock, Newlands and Borrowdale.
Please check your routes using the map below and choose alternatives if necessary. We have also made updates to our Miles without Stiles routes. You might also want to check out Cumbria County Council's Roads and bridges latest page (opens in new window).
Temporary closures
If we have to close a path for repairs, we will list the details on our Rights of Way Temporary Closures web page.
Flood-damaged paths map
We are working hard to repair the damage and apologise if the information isn't completely up to date. However local 'fingerpost' signs on the ground will give up to date information and alternatives where they have been provided.
The red squares show which paths are unavailable for use. The pink diamonds indicate flood-damaged paths which are passable with care.
