The Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole is celebrating the spirit of adventure with an exciting and inspiring programme of activities for all the family during the school holidays.

As the school holidays draw to a close, you can still have fun here at Brockhole!

Thursday 2 September

Green Fingered Fun - free

A fascinating afternoon discovering the mysteries and secrets of the Brockhole gardens. Starts at 1pm. Booking advisable 0845 272 0004

Friday 3 September

A walk with our Head Gardener - free

Enjoy a pleasant stroll and an update on the future of Brockhole's gardens. Starts at 1.30pm.

Take to the water every weekend and throughout the school holidays

We've teamed up with Lakes Leisure to offer some great taster sessions at the Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole.

What can I try out?

Canoeing, kayaking or sailing with a fully qualified instructor on Lake Windermere.

How much?

It's just £10 per person per session.

What age group?

Anyone aged 7 or above is welcome.

When?

There are six sessions a day at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

Can I just have a paddle?

Yes, you can hire sit-on-top kayaks for £10 per hour.

How do I book?

Just because the holidays have ended, doesn't mean the fun has. Pop along any Sunday for some fun by the lakeshore.

Sunday 5 September

Muncaster Owls - free

The owls from Muncaster castle will fly into Brockhole for a visit today.

Starts 11:30am.  Just turn up.

Sunday 12 September

The Beatrix Potter Picnic in the Park - free

Bring along your favourite teddy bear or a cuddly Beatrix Potter character and enjoy a picnic with us. Picnic boxes available at our café or bring your own. Activities include story telling, fun quiz, badge making (50p) and join in the Beatrix Potter parade. Starts 11am.  

Beatrix and Brockhole

Beatrix Potter had a very close personal connection to what is now the visitor centre at Brockhole. She was a cousin of the Gaddum family, Manchester-based merchants who used to own Brockhole as their private luxury Windermere home. She was a frequent visitor and would have enjoyed many picnics herself at Brockhole. There are more details about this famous author on our Beatrix Potter page.

Astral Circus - free

Fun for all the family including comedy, juggling and balloon artistry.

Sessions at 11.30am and 2.30pm. Just turn up.

Sunday 26 September

Squirrel Fest - free

A day of family fun celebrating the red squirrel. Includes games and craft activities, live music and the opportunity to learn about the conservation of red squirrels and how you can help. Starts 12pm.
