Regional Spatial Strategy

The Regional Spatial Strategy for the North West (North West of England Plan) was adopted on 30 September 2008.

A Partial Review of the North West Regional Spatial Strategy is currently being undertaken.

The RSS provides a regional framework for development and investment up to 2021, and is part of the statutory development plan for the North West region.  The Plan builds on the foundation of the draft Plan published by the North West Regional Assembly (now 4NW) in 2006. It takes account of two rounds of public consultation and independent Examination in Public.

The Regional Spatial Strategy provides overarching policies for economic development, housing, transport and tourism for the whole of the North West of England. Our Local Development Framework must be in general conformity with the strategic decisions for the region established by the Regional Spatial Strategy.
