National guidance

The Department for Communities and Local Government prepares planning policy statements which guide building development across England. Our local policies must be in harmony with this guidance.

We also follow:

• Town and Country Planning (Local Development) Regulations 2004 (opens in new window)
• Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2008 (opens in new window) which came into force on 27 June 2008.

These control the process for policy review such as how the public can access information and the minimum requirements for consultation.
