Core Strategy

Local Development Framework
The key document in the Local Development Framework is the Core Strategy. It contains:
- our vision for how we want the National Park to look in the future
- strategic objectives we are setting to achieve this
- our proposed development strategy
It will contain policies that apply to the whole of the National Park and some that apply to particular areas of the National Park.
January 2010: Submission of the Core Strategy for public examination
- On Thursday 14 January 2010 the Lake District National Park Core Strategy was submitted to the Secretary of State. The soundness of the document will be tested through a public examination led by an independent Planning Inspector.
- A pre-hearing meeting with the appointed Planning Inspector is scheduled to take place on Friday 12 March.
- A number of hearing sessions will take place in May.

Pre-submission consultation
The Lake District National Park Authority Core Strategy for pre-submission, ‘Sustaining the Lake District’ (opens Document Library) was prepared, prior to its submission to the Secretary of State for independent examination in 2010. Comments were invited over a six week period from 21 September - 30 October 2009
The Representations Statement summarises the main issues raised. All representations have been sent to the Secretary of State for consideration during the examination process.
