Landscape and Nature: Tough at the top by Lindsey Goldsborough

"This was taken at the top of Fairfield and I chose it as I felt it represents just how wild and remote the top of the peaks can be when the weather turns bad. The cairns were hard to find in the snow and ice, and they looked like little ice palaces when we finally found one!"

Buildings: A room with a view by Peter Hallam

"Our hotel bedroom - a room with a view! A necessary evil for the larger hotel? The vent from the kitchen was noisey too but you didn’t need an alarm as you know when breakfast was being prepared."

People: Graffiti on trees by Peter Hallam

"This shows some graffiti on trees by the lake. Of course you don't really know how old they are but does it really matter? The tree seems to have survived (I hope!)"

Landscape and Nature: Skeleton at Watendlath Tarn by Gillian Lauder

"I took this photograph walking in the Lakes near Grange Fell Watendlath Tarn - This I think sums up the vulnerable nature of the sheep in the fells in Winter."

Buildings: "All kinds of everything" collage of signs by John Riddle

"I have visited the Lake District almost every year since 1974. Why do I keep coming back you might ask?

I just love the place and you have kept it unchanged for more than 30 years which is to the credit of everyone associated with the National Park Authority. Why did I take the image - because you can't take a poor photograph in the Lake District. and when you combine them all - well thats the title of my main image - "All Kinds of Eveything remind me of you".

People - children in Wastwater by Peter Holloway

"Having spent a relaxed sunny afternoon in April this year walking around the lake, and taking some posed photos of the family I was able to take this very natural shot of two of my children at play. The scenery is spectacular, and the children add a very personal aspect to the picture. It's one of my favourites."

Services - Snow on Dunmail Raise by Paul Burke

"In the background, regardless of the weather or time of day, there are people working to keep the national park going. Here a Police officer helps stranded motorists on the top of Dunmail Raise during the frequent snow storms of 2006."

Winners January - March 2006

Landscape and Nature: Ullswater by Wendy Collins

"The image was taken on a calm and quiet morning. The sun was peeping through the mist. The juxtaposition of the natural beauty of the lake and hills and the twisted manmade structure provided an interesting contrast.":

Winners October - December 2005

Buildings - Buttermere Parish Church by Trevor Pickles

" I think that the building materials and overall aesthetic look of the building complement the surrounding and even blends in. It looks as though it has been there almost as long as the hills and trees.

I think traditional stone and slate buildings are an integral part of the Lake District. If there are any traditional buildings that are in danger of demolition I think every effort should be made to give them a new lease of life, either traditional restoration or modern restoration for the building to be used to meet the needs of today’s local communities.":
