Local Development Framework
This is a new, more dynamic way of involving people in planning. The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 introduced Local Development Frameworks across the country through changes in the planning system. With your input, the Local Development Framework will be a folder of documents to guide development in the National Park. It will replace the Local Plan.
What's in the LDF?
There are two types of document in the Local Development Framework. Read the completed documents by clicking the hyperlink. All links unless, otherwise stated, open in the Document Library:
Type 1: Process documents
explaining what, how, when and why?
- Statement of Community Involvement - explains how you can get involved. This was adopted June 2006.
- Piecing the jigsaw together: Local Development Scheme (March 2009) - a timetable and list of documents reviewed annually

Type 2: Development documents
policies, plans, maps and guidance
- Core strategy - rhe overarching spatial development strategy for the National Park to 2025. On Thursday 14 January 2010 the lake District National Park Core Strategy was submitted to the Secretary of State, for public examination. A number of public hearing sessions will take place between 4 and 14 May 2010.
- Proposals map - which has been submitted alongside the Core strategy and will be revised to reflect other forthcoming documents
- Supplementary planning documents
- General development policies - more detailed policies on particular topics
- Allocations - land identified for housing, employment and other uses
- Area action plans - to be developed as necessary
