Discovery Walks - Tale of Two Valleys
These full day walks have been designed to encourage pupils to discover the physical and human history of our spectacular landscape. The routes follow footpaths and bridleways, so be prepared for rough terrain.
The history of the landscape is brought to life through interactive activities including word poetry, map reading and role play.
The Tale of Two Valleys
A 6 kilometre circular walk from Glenridding has magnificent views of Ullswater and the surrounding area. Pupils look at how two adjacent valleys, Glenridding and Grisedale, contrast sharply. Human influence, particularly mining, has had a dramatic effect on the landscape of Glenridding, compared to the typical Lake District farming of Grisedale.
Location: Glenridding, Ullswater. Excellent activity if staying at the local Youth Hostel.
Duration: Full day - 6 hours
