The Lake District National Park Authority and Natural England are setting up and running new Walking for Health walks around the National Park. These short walks are designed to encourage people who are not currently active to walk to improve their health. We are now looking for people to help lead walks in stunning settings, who want to encourage and support others to get out and about and share their enthusiasm for the National Park and walking. Two walk leaders are needed for each walk which will be in local communities within the park. You don’t need have any experience leading walks as we can train you. Anyone is welcome to get involved.
By getting involved you will have the opportunity to learn some new skills, get outdoors and explore the National Park. You also get to meet new people, keep fit and active, help us develop the project and have a very sociable time!
If you’re interested in finding out more or want to take part and help us, please get in touch with Tim Duckmanton Volunteer Coordinator tim.duckmanton@lakedistrict.gov.uk or phone 01539 792674
Information Centre meeters and greeters
The National Park is looking for help meeting and greeting its visitors at Lake District National Park Authority information centres. We are looking for people to talk to the public, enthuse about their passion for the special qualities of the Lake District and help people get the most of their visit. If you like sharing your knowledge, meeting people, enjoy team work and want to help look after our National Park – this could be the role for you. No experience is necessary and everyone is welcome to find out more about the role. If you have some experience in visitor services or retail that would help!
The roles are based in Keswick, Glenridding and Bowness information centres, from September onwards. Tasks include retailing tasks, providing advice and assistance to our customers, taking bookings, operating the till and restocking the centre. Its great way to learn more about the National Park, meet other people, get some experience and have fun. We pay out of pocket expenses and we can help you volunteer with us in a flexible way that suits you.

Meeter and Greeter
We’re looking for help meeting visitors at the Lake District Visitor Centre. We want to help people get the most out of their visit by providing a warm welcome and the information they need to find their way around our Centre. If you enjoy meeting visitors and want to share your passion for the National Park, we would like your help.
You will be the first point of contact for the public, meeting and greeting people in the car park – and perhaps handing out a small amount of change for the car park. You can also be a guide to our visitors during special events around the Centre. We will provide you with a briefing so you know what is happening where and when. You’ll also get to find out more about our Centre and the service we deliver.
In each of these roles you will be looked after with coffee and cakes but will need to take a packed lunch. For more information and to find out how to get involved in any of these roles please call Jo Cooper on 04539792605 or email jo.cooper@lakedistrict.gov.uk.
