What is the State of this Park?

The story so far

2005: We always needed to know about the condition of the National Park – and we always will. In 2005, we chose some simple indicators which would help us monitor any changes. We described these in the State of the Park Report 2005 (opens Document Library)

2010 and beyond: It is now crucial we know if the Vision for the National Park is being realised.

But it is important to understand that we can not measure everything. We have to measure things that contribute most to realising the Vision over a long period of time.

The Lake District National Park Partnership has therefore developed and agreed a set of key indicators which will measure the state of the National Park. These indicators build on the indicators in the first State of the Park report (2005).

The new indicators will now have targets which will help the Lake District National Park Partnership see if specific actions in their action plan are doing the job they were meant to.

The partners report on each indicator at different times. This depends on how frequent it is necessary to collect information – quarterly, annually or, in some cases, bi-annually.

The National Park Management Plan (opens Document Library) contains all the State of the Park indicators and targets.
