Memorials and donations
We receive many enquiries every year for memorial benches, trees and plaques but sadly we cannot satisfy every request.
Landscape Fund
We have however set up a Landscape Fund for work to enhance and maintain the National Park. This includes works such as adding new stiles, repairs to older ones, tree planting and bridge repairs. Over 8 million visitors come to the Lake District each year. The landscape is under pressure from changes in farming practice, demands for new development and the sheer impact of people and traffic. A lot of the change is good – this is a living and a working place. But we cannot always look after what is most precious in the landscape without added financial support.
Our landscape fund adds to the money we attract from central government and other public funds. It is funded entirely by donations from organisations and individuals. It is used for small projects within the Lake District National Park.
If you would like to make a donation please send a cheque marked for ‘The Landscape Fund, made payable to the Lake District National Park Authority to:

If you would like your donation to be used in a particular area of the National Park, please indicate the area in which you would like your donation to be used. The Authority will try to follow your request.
Fix the Fells
Ugly scarred paths spoil the view for everyone - walkers, climbers and sightseers alike. With over 8 million visitors a year it is literally an uphill battle to stop path erosion. The Lake District National Park Authority is part of the Fix the Fells Project repairing and maintaining paths throughout the National Park. The Partners in the Project are ourselves, The National Trust, Natural England, Friends of the Lake District, The Tourism and Conservation Partnership and the Field Studies Council. The Project is also supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund. The purpose of the Fix the Fells Project is to:
- Encourage greater understanding of and support for access to the fells by both existing users and identified target audiences
- Provides training and development for staff, volunteers and contractors involved in the Project
- Continues repairing seriously eroded landscapes and associated paths
- Concentrates on transferring the practical work away from the larger projects, towards smaller pre-emptive type works.

Charitable donations
We are not a charitable organisation. But we understand that when making a will, you want to make the best of any tax relief available to you. If you wish to leave money for the benefit of the Lake District National Park and receive the tax relief gifting to a charity would give you, then we suggest you donate to one of the following charities. All three organisations enjoy charitable status.
Please make it clear that you wish the funds to be used for the Fix the Fells project.
