Background, particular interests and hobbies:

Employed by Cumbria County Council Highways for 40 years from 1959 to 1999. Mostly spent as the Highways Foreman covering Workington and Maryport.

After taking early retirement, took up employment as a clerk to two Parish Councils. Still employed by Distington Parish Council. Elected to serve on Cumbria County Council in 2001 and then Allerdale Borough Council in 2007.

His main interest after his family is Rugby League. He has supported Workington Town for over 50 years and has compiled a database of every professional Rugby League player, a total of 46,000 records.

Author of two books: "A history of Workington Town" and "The Story of the 1958 Tour of Australia".
