Be bowled over by Brockhole

Watch out for a new leaflet spelling out why the Lake District Visitor Centre is the place to be all year round.

And while summer is packed with an intoxicating cocktail of activities and events, for the first time the acclaimed building and listed grounds will be open throughout winter.

Over 130,000 people a year currently visit the 30 acre site on the shores of Windermere, but Brockhole development director, Adam Thomas, said thousands more were expected to turn up to enjoy “a unique 365-day experience”.

He explained: “We have produced 70,000 Brockhole leaflets which will be widely available across the country. They give a lively insight into what’s on offer, how to find us, and provide all the ingredients for a fantastic day out for all the family.

“Whether you’re a thrill seeker looking for water sports and climbing adventures, a garden enthusiast wanting to see how Edwardian horticultural guru Thomas Mawson brought his genius to this magical place, or a ‘foody’ after a great gastronomic experience, Brockhole is the place to be.

“Rain or shine, we’ve got the activity market cornered. And with our new winter opening, the opportunities are endless. We are particularly excited about our Christmas plans, which include a craft fair and programme of special events.

“Although the festive season couldn’t be further from our visitors’ thoughts in the summer holidays, we’re saying come back and enjoy some very special winter warmth.”

Entry to Brockhole is free and charges for the pay and display car park will be reduced between 1 November and 25 February.

The leaflet is available from tourist information centres, libraries, hotels and guest houses, visitor attractions, motorway services, airports, train stations.
