Lake District National Park Partnership and local communities

We work closely with local communities in many different ways:

  • Our Rangers work with land owners and farmers to help manage the spectacular landscape and people’s access to it.
  • Some of our planners are dedicated ‘housing enablers’ working in some settlements to help communities develop solutions for new housing.
  • We have a community enabler who manages our Sustainable Development Fund which helps many local projects get off the ground.

Local communities are represented on the Lake District National Park Partnership by the Cumbria Association of Local Councils (CALC), County and District or Borough Councils.

We also hold two meetings each year with CALC and the Parish Councils in the National Park to discuss issues – just like the Business task force. Parish Councillors can suggest ideas or items for discussion on the Lake District National Park Partnership agenda through CALC or ourselves. They can also comment on subjects which the Partnership wants their views on.
