Barf Common is located east of Lord's Seat sitting above the A66 and Bassenthwaite. It is a Wainwright fell so is a very popular walk. Pressure from walking has resulted in the loss of grass or vegetation and as the rutted, eroded peat has become difficult to walk on, people tend to walk on the side, making the problem worse and creating scars that can be seen from miles away.
To repair the path we need to use a technique called sub-soiling where substrate soil is brought to the surface and used as a firm, natural walking surface.
Cost: £8,000 for a digger and driver.
