Brockhole on Windermere is undergoing some significant developments, particularly in Brockhole House and especially with our food and dining offer, and we are looking for dedicated people to join our new, enthusiastic and ambitious team to help create an exceptional dining experience at our stunning Lake District Visitor Centre.  We have an existing busy main family café, and two great seasonal catering cabins in the gardens.

New for 2018 is the Arts & Crafts inspired restaurant “The Gaddum”, which offers high quality afternoon teas, à la carte lunches and evening dining (the latter from May to September).

Working with our Catering Manager and new Head Chef, both with tremendous fine dining experience, this role presents a great opportunity to learn and develop your skills whilst helping the kitchen team create confident British cuisine.  More specifically, the day-to-day duties will include:

  • unloading deliveries and organising these appropriately in the storeroom
  • collecting and washing pots, pans, plates, cutlery and glassware
  • getting pots, pans plates, cutlery and glassware back into use quickly after polishing all cutlery and glassware thoroughly
  • washing and disinfecting kitchen appliances, work surfaces, floors and walls
  • participating in daily, weekly and monthly deep cleans
  • making sure kitchen equipment is properly stored
  • removing and recycling waste from the kitchen

The kitchen porter might also at times help with basic food preparation such as sandwich making or vegetable preparation as per the chef’s instructions.
