Behind the scenes with Julie Wood

Julie Wood

What do you do exactly?

I keep the Authority on the straight and narrow - advising on all aspects of the law, what can be done and what can't be done. I put the legal procedures and paperwork in place to enable the Authority to fulfil its Vision.

What's your background?

I'm a qualilfied solicitor who used to work in private practice dealing with family matters, employment issues and civil litigation and then fancied a change of scene.

What's been your greatest achievement so far?

Drafting and getting approval to the Coniston Byelaws to allow the Bluebird to run.

What are the best parts of the job?

Working with such a great team of people in the Authority and the variety of work. I cover everything from intellectual property rights to planning law.

What are the worst parts of the job?

Not being able to get out into the National Park as much as I'd like!

What advice would you give to someone who would like to do this kind of job?

Make sure that you have a good general background in law as you never know what you'll be asked and be practical in your advice.
