Windermere projects
Windermere in the Lake District is England's largest lake. It is ten and a half miles long and 219 feet deep, with its name derived from the Scandinavian for 'lake of a man called Vinandr'.
Windermere is incredibly popular with tourists and day trippers. This beautiful lake is enjoyed by visitors, sailors, canoeists, swimmers, power boat enthusiasts, rowers and anglers. But it's also the workplace for many people.
Projects
There is a delicate balancing act in encouraging a prosperous economy and vibrant communities while providing a world-class visitor experience in the spectacular landscape. The Lake District National Park Authority works with partner organisations in achieving this through many projects:
- Lake Windermere Waterfront Programme
- Windermere Byelaws Consultation
- Windermere Catchment Restoration Programme
- Windermere Management Strategy Review
