New watersports centre
For the last two years, Lakes Leisure have successfully run taster sessions in kayaking and sailing. In 2011 rowing boat hire was added. The activities have been so popular they have outgrown the small shed from which they have been operating.
We would like to become a regional watersports centre. This would require a building with changing rooms, toilets, an office, wet and dry training spaces and refreshments.
Possible options
We are working on developing the following ideas. As soon as we have more details, we will feature them on this website as we'd love your feedback.
Option 1: Floating centre
This is an innovative and high risk option. The building would float and be moored at the old jetty. There would be changing rooms, toilets, an office, wet and dry training spaces and refreshments. The watersports would take place on the lake.
Option 2: Building
This option would have the least impact on the landscape and environment. It would involve constructing a small scale building within the grounds of Brockhole close to the lakeshore. The building would include changing rooms, toilets, an office, wet and dry training spaces and refreshments. The watersports would take place on the lake.
Option 3: Building with inshore marina
This option would involve digging out an area of the site close to the shore, changing the nature of some of the informal parkland. A new building would be placed close to the lakeshore would include changing rooms, toilets, an office, wet and dry training spaces and refreshments. The watersports would take place inshore.
