New watersports centre

Over the past three years we have run a selection of lakeshore activities, including kayaking, rowing, canoing and water walkers!

These activities have been so popular that they have outgrown the small shed from which they have been operating.

We would like to become a regional watersports centre. We have been in contact with the national governing bodies for canoeing, sailing and rowing to find out what their requirements would be.

This has helped shape our thinking on what a new watersports centre could look like. We would most likely require a building with changing rooms, toilets, an office, wet and dry training spaces and refreshments.

Possible options

We are working on developing the following ideas. As soon as we have more details, we will feature them on this website as we'd love your feedback.

Option 1: Floating centre

This is an innovative and high risk option. The building would float and be moored at the old jetty. There would be changing rooms, toilets, an office, wet and dry training spaces and refreshments. The watersports would take place on the lake.

Option 2: Building

This option would have the least impact on the landscape and environment. It would involve constructing a small scale building within the grounds of Brockhole close to the lakeshore. The building would include changing rooms, toilets, an office, wet and dry training spaces and refreshments. The watersports would take place on the lake.

Option 3: Building with inshore marina

This option would involve digging out an area of the site close to the shore, changing the nature of some of the informal parkland. A new building would be placed close to the lakeshore. It would include changing rooms, toilets, an office, wet and dry training spaces and refreshments. The watersports would take place inshore.

Masterplan

The watersport centre is a key feature of the masterplan. Find out more about our future plans in the Masterplan document (opens in new window).
