Rare chance to join Lakes' Ranger teams

For the first time ever the Lake District National Park is looking to recruit people wanting to learn outdoor practical field work and gain qualifications through an eighteen month Government supported apprenticeship scheme.
The LDNPA has two full-time positions – based at depots in either Ambleside in the south of the park, or Threlkeld in the north – working with its park management team and supported by day release college training leading to Level 2 Diploma in environmental conservation.
Anyone interested has until 10 February to apply - candidates will undergo a practical assessment session and a formal interview. The Lake District recruitment process coincides with National Apprenticeship Week, which runs from 6 to 10 February.
“This is a rare opportunity to train to participate in practical work in the national park,” said LDNPA human resources officer Katie Eastham.
“A key aspect of the role will be to support and carry out work to maintain and improve our public rights of way network, carry out the practical elements of installing gates and stiles, woodland management and dealing with erosion problems within the national park,” she added.
Anyone can apply, especially candidates who can show experience or interest in:
- learning about field estate work
- dry stone walling
- fencing and footpath repairing
- team working
- and communicating effectively.
