New role for park volunteers
Published on: 08 Feb 2012
The search is on to find a group of volunteers who are willing to work with children to ensure they get the maximum benefit from a visit to the Lake District National Park.
Up to eight people are needed to help LDNPA staff increase the enjoyment of the thousands of children who visit the Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole, on the shores of Windermere, every year.
The volunteers will be “meeting and greeting” groups of children, and will be expected to carry out up to 10 duties a year, primarily in school term times between Easter and October.
“As a Volunteer Schools Liaison officer you will be the first point of contact to groups arriving at Brockhole. Your role will involve running short welcome briefing sessions - ensuring that teachers and group leaders are happy with the arrangements for their visit,” said LDNPA Volunteer Co-ordinator Tim Duckmanton.
The volunteer roles are open to anyone, as full training and support will be given. But people will need to show:
- excellent communication skills;
- enthusiasm to work with children;
- good local knowledge; and
- a broad understanding of the national park authority.
“This role will particularly suit someone who is confident with large groups and is prepared to be an ambassador for the national park authority. It’s a great way to learn more about the national park, meet other people, get some experience for working in the countryside and support the national park in an enjoyable and high profile role,” Tim added.
Anyone wanting to find out more about the role should contact Annie Duckworth Volunteer Recruitment Co-ordinator on 01539 792891 or email annieduckworth@lakedistrict.gov.uk before 23 February 2012.
