Hoping to appeal to more local visitors

Information Centre staff in Bowness are throwing open their doors next month in an attempt to attract “new” visitors to the centre – and for once they won’t be advising worldwide visitors which Windermere attractions to visit, or where to find accommodation in the Lake District!
The open evening on 2 February is aimed specifically at showing local businesses and residents exactly how the national park centre, on the Glebe, can help them promote their activities to the million visitors who look in the Information Centre windows every year.
The LDNPA centre has itself extended its own sales and retail activities – while still offering free advice for visitors – and wants to use the premises to offer commercial and marketing opportunities to other businesses in the Bowness and Windermere area.
Each year around 300,000 visitors directly call into the Bowness Bay Information Centre, while twice as many again look in on their way to other nearby Windermere attractions.
“The Glebe is a thriving place in the daytime and evenings, especially in the summer months. We offer an outstanding location for commercial advertising, during opening hours and even when we are closed,” said centre Team Leader Sue Fellows.
“We have extended our range of quality merchandise and created a larger retail area. Our visitors have appreciated the improvements with a direct impact on customers and the amount of money they spend. Now we want to work with our local business colleagues to see how they can use the Information Centre to help their own operations grow,” Sue added.
The centre will be open from 6 to 8pm on 2 February and any local businesses can get more information from Sue on 015394 48428 or via suefellows@lakedistrict.gov.uk
