Brockhole gives a true taste of the Lake District
Published on: 18 Jan 2012
A new promotional leaflet showing the changing face of Brockhole, the Lake District Visitor Centre on the shores of Windermere, has gone into circulation throughout Cumbria and the north west.
The leaflet called “something for everyone whatever the weather” shows: the seasonal variety at Brockhole; introduces new attractions; highlights the shopping and eating opportunities; and demonstrates how it is rapidly becoming a “taster” destination for anyone visiting the rest of the national park.
The 130,000 leaflets also show the best environmentally friendly ways to travel to Brockhole – including the centre’s new lake jetty - and details of car parking charges.
In summer Brockhole will unveil its new “star” attraction a treetop trek through the ancient woodland canopy allowing adults and children the chance to get closer to nature. Other key attractions include:
- cycle hire, including new electric bikes
- taster sessions for lake and land activities with dedicated instruction
- boat hire, with canoes, kayaks, rowing boats and paddle board
- adventure playground with walks, slides, scramble nets and zip wires
- play and learn facilities, including traversing walls and soft play areas
“This year visitors can take their pick from a great range of inspiring events and activities. From fantastic festivals to children’s adventure days, there’s a wealth of exciting and engaging events for everyone to experience,” said Brockhole’s Commercial Manager Mike Clarke.
“The villa at Brockhole was designed for the Gaddum family - wealthy silk merchants – and in 1969 the house became the first visitor centre for a national park. It was free to use back then and it’s still free today. This year why not come and try your hand at a new activity or simply sit back in the sun and enjoy a classical concert on our terrace?” Mike added.
Copies of the Brockhole leaflet are available from information centres, libraries, hotels and holiday attractions throughout Cumbria. Brockhole, and its historic gardens, are now open all year round and there’s more detailed information at www.brockhole.co.uk
