Memorials and donations

We receive many enquiries every year for memorial benches, trees and plaques but sadly we cannot satisfy every request.

Landscape Fund

Over 15 million visitors come to the Lake District each year. This results in wear and tear far beyond that which would be expected in a working landscape subject to less recreational use. Often it’s the detail that adds to landscape, natural environment and heritage value and makes a landscape more accessible. We have set up a fund for work to enhance and maintain the National Park. This includes works such as:

Our Landscape Fund adds to the money we attract from central government and other public funds. It is specifically used for practical projects within the Lake District National Park. It is funded entirely by donations from organisations and individuals.

It is impossible for us to mount plaques in memorial of all those who loved the Lake District. But if you would like to make a donation in memory of your loved ones please send a cheque marked for ‘The Landscape Fund', made payable to the Lake District National Park Authority to:

Lake District National Park Authority
Murley Moss
Oxenholme Road
Kendal LA9 7RL

If you would like your donation to be used in a particular area of the National Park, please indicate the area in which you would like your donation to be used. The Authority will try to follow your request.

Fix the Fells

Ugly scarred paths spoil the view for everyone - walkers, climbers and sightseers alike. With over 8 million visitors a year it is literally an uphill battle to stop path erosion. The Lake District National Park Authority is part of the Fix the Fells Project repairing and maintaining paths throughout the National Park. The Partners in the Project are ourselves, The National Trust, Natural England, Friends of the Lake District, The Tourism and Conservation Partnership and the Field Studies Council. The Project is also supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund. The purpose of the Fix the Fells Project is to:

Charitable donations

We are not a charitable organisation. But we understand that when making a will, you want to make the best of any tax relief available to you. If you wish to leave money for the benefit of the Lake District National Park and receive the tax relief gifting to a charity would give you, then we suggest you donate to one of the following charities. All three organisations enjoy charitable status.

Please make it clear that you wish the funds to be used for the Fix the Fells project.
