Background, particular interests and hobbies:

Miles was born in Pooley Bridge, where he now lives, and was raised in Watermillock on the shores of Ullswater.  He was a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, working in Rural Practice in and around the National Park for over 45 years until his recent retirement.  He is a lay Member of the Agricultural Land Tribunal. 

Miles is a past Chairman of the Cumbria branch of the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) and sat on its Executive Committee. 

Miles is married to Jane, with three grown up children and two grandchildren. 

Miles' interests include photography, classical music and opera, country sports, travel, gardening and watching Cricket and Rugby football.  In his younger days he was a member of the Patterdale Mountain Rescue team.
