Background, particular interests and hobbies:
Colin is a son of a Suffolk farmer, educated in Hampshire and graduated through the Open University. He has lived in South Lakeland since 1971 and in the National Park since 1989.
Colin worked for 32 years in environmental research at the Merlewood Research Station at Grange over Sands, carrying out vegetation and land use surveys. Following early retirement, he directed a small ecological consultancy and then became self-employed until 2010 when fully retired. He is married with no children.
Colin has a keen interest in local affairs. He is Chairman of Colton Parish Council; Chairman of Rusland Valley & Fells Heritage Partnership; helps run the local newsletter and Reading Room; a Committee Member of the Rusland Valley Horticultural Society; and is a volunteer minibus driver with the Cumbria Community Transport Scheme.
Colin is interested in all aspects of the countryside but particularly enjoys fell-walking and photography, at home and abroad, and has travelled extensively to fulfil these passions. His other interests include wildlife, gardening and most sports.
