Trail hunting on land owned by Lake District National Park

Updated 30 October 2018

We have issued four licences for the current trail hunting season for activities taking place on common land owned by the Lake District National Park Authority. We operate an open dialogue with all parties and interest groups and take steps to ensure our licence conditions reflect the feedback and views we receive.

Earlier this season, we received a complaint relating to Blencathra Foxhounds’ fixture on Caldbeck Common alleging behaviour in contravention of their licence. The allegation was detailed and included video evidence. We have conducted an investigation and are satisfied that there has not been a breach of the current licence conditions. However, we intend to amend the wording on future licences to ensure greater clarity surrounding the permitted use of quad bikes on the fell and terrier boxes.
