Response to National Grid’s proposed route for the North West Coast Connection project

Statement from Steve Ratcliffe, Director of Sustainable Development for the Lake District National Park:

"On Monday 24 October, National Grid announced its proposed route to the North West Coast Connections (NWCC) Stakeholder Reference Group.

"Due to the scale of the project and volume of the proposal, we will now take time to review the documents, alongside the other planning authorities involved. We need to consider, amongst many things, the impact that this proposal will have on the National Park, the proposed World Heritage Site, and for the economy of the west coast.

"National Grid will be holding a public consultation for 10 weeks, commencing 28 October. We will be making a substantive response to the consultation reflecting what our authorities consider to be best for the communities and landscapes of Cumbria and Lancashire."
