Volunteer to help promote BrockholeLake District lovers with time on their hands are being called to pursue their passion with some of the area’s 16.4 million annual visitors.

With the height of the holiday season fast approaching, a team of dedicated enthusiasts is needed to meet and greet Windermere Lake Cruises’ passengers at Bowness and Ambleside piers.

Volunteers will be asked to hand out leaflets and talk to people about the national park, encouraging them to drop off at the Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole.

A team of six to ten are sought to help highlight what makes the country’s largest national park special and tempt holiday makers to the acclaimed 30-acre visitor centre.

"A brilliant opportunity"

Lake District National Park’s commercial assistant, Lorraine Brierley, said: “This is a brilliant opportunity for people to play a part in promoting opportunities to enjoy a spectacular place.

“The new volunteer wayfinders will talk to passengers sailing on lake cruisers, explaining why it is worth stopping off at Brockhole pier and what they can expect to find in the Arts and Crafts treasure trove.

“Our drive to encourage visitors to park up and get round the world renowned locations by boat, bus, train, bike or boots makes this a very appealing initiative.

“We want as many people as possible to enjoy the huge amount Brockhole offers, without adding to pressure on the roads. This way, holidaymakers can enjoy a beautiful boat trip, as well as a veritable feast of activities.”

Lorraine said the role would appeal to anyone willing to share their love of the Lakes and could commit to helping out at weekends and busy periods.

She added: “With Brockhole’s recent VisitEngland endorsement, we know visitors will love what they see and do. In the meantime, we welcome applications from anyone interested in becoming a volunteer wayfinder.”
