Rusland Horizons Valley Futures Apprentice

Minimum wage ( £3.64 per hour for the first year of the apprenticeship)

Would you like to play a vital role in an ambitious scheme to revive traditional skills and restore the unique wooded landscape of a wonderful part of South Lakeland?

Following a successful, community-led bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Lake District National Park Authority, on behalf of the Rusland Valley & Fells Landscape Partnership, is now looking to recruit four apprentices to help deliver the Rusland Horizons Scheme.

We are looking for enthusiastic committed individuals to join our apprentice team. Working within the Rusland Horizons project area on practical countryside management activities, this is a great opportunity to participate in and gain practical experience within the environmental sector. A key aspect of this will be completing a Level 2 (Intermediate) Apprenticeship in Environmental Conservation, through Newton Rigg College. Previous experience and qualifications are not essential; you will receive full training and any necessary qualifications as part of the role. You will need to be committed to the apprenticeship, your training and development. This is a ‘hands on’ practical role and you will need to be able to carry out physical work in all weathers. The ability to work within a team will be essential along with some knowledge of Health and Safety.

In return, we can offer you the opportunity to gain valuable qualifications, training and skills in countryside management. Working as part of a friendly and focused team supported by a wide network of organisations and members of the local community, you will be making a real difference to the Rusland Horizons area.

For an informal discussion about the posts please contact Claire Green, Rusland Horizons Skills & Training Coordinator on
